2 Tips That Will Save You Money on Printer Ink and Inkjet Cartridges

By: Wendy Moyer

A lot of times after people purchase and use their inkjet printers, many of them find that the annual cost of replenishing the printer ink that they need to print out their documents ends up costing a lot more than they paid for the printer itself. But there are viable ways that you can save money on printer ink and inkjet cartridges.

For example, as an alternative to buying original equipment manufactured inkjet cartridges you can save quite a lot of money by buying remanufactured inkjet cartridges. Another alternative would be to purchase printer ink in bulk.

If you purchase your remanufactured cartridges from a reputable dealer you will enjoy the same high quality output that you would with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) inkjet cartridges. They function identically and you will not be jeopardizing the integrity of your printer or your output. However, by doing so, you will save a considerable amount of money.

Buy Remanufactured and Refilled Inkjet Cartridges

Refilled and remanufactured inkjet cartridges that are sold by reputable companies are cartridges that have been cleaned, inspected, and refilled with ink. These cartridges are a more affordable alternative to the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges and are usually tested before sold.

Printer ink refilling companies have the ability to clean and test cartridges considerably better than you can do it at home. Therefore, the quality of your documents may be a bit higher than if you do it yourself.

Because inkjet cartridges can dry out over time you should only purchase the number of cartridges you anticipate using over the next two or three months. Buying in bulk in an effort to save money and then having losing the printer ink to evaporation is counterproductive.

Refill Your Cartridges Yourself with a Do-It-Yourself Printer Ink Refill Kit

Inkjet cartridges are made of plastic and over time the printer ink will evaporate.

Since the printer ink that comes with refill kits is stored in bottles it will not dry out as quickly as the ink in your cartridges.

Although refilling your inkjet cartridges with printer ink can save you a lot of money there is some work involved and it can be quite messy if you don't know what you're doing. In other words, don't wear your best outfit while attempting this process.

If you decide to go this route you will save a lot of money. You may want to consider experimenting with refilling your cartridges yourself by purchasing the smallest kit available and trying it for yourself.
