4 Ways to Save Money on Printers Ink and Inkjet Cartridges

By: Wendy Moyer

The highest quality inkjet cartridges use only high quality printers ink. You can find that quality in OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges as well as compatible and remanufactured cartridges that can be purchased through reputable dealers. And when you buy remanufactured cartridges you can save a considerable amount of money.

The amount of money that you've spent on your printer can easily end up being only a fraction of the annual cost of printing because printers ink is one of the most expensive liquids in the world.

However, there are some strategies that can help you to economize on the amount of printers ink you use and ultimately lower your costs for replacement cartridges.

1. Use Draft Print Quality Whenever You Can

Unless you are preparing a document that will be seen by your clients, set your printer for draft print quality. Your document will then be printed at a lower resolution. And you will probably find it is excellent for both your personal use and reference material.
And at a glance, there's a good chance that you will find it hard to tell the difference between documents printed with draft quality and those printed at higher resolutions.

2. Use Black Printers Ink Instead of Color Printers Ink When Possible.

Most inkjet printers offer you the option of printing in either color or black and white. Black printers ink is usually less expensive than color ink. If your work is not for presentation you probably do not need to print it out in color.

3. Print Multiple Pages on Each Sheet of Paper

Inkjet printers often permit you to print two or more pages on one sheet of paper. Test this out. If your eyesight permits you will use about half the amount of ink and will save on paper costs as well.

4. Avoid Printing Photographs

Digital cameras have superseded film cameras over the past several years. And because you no longer have to spend money on film and processing, a lot of people are taking considerably more pictures than they did before. And they're using their printers to print out the images. In many cases the quality of the pictures rival the quality you would get from a professional printer.
However, even though personal inkjet printers can produce exceptionally high quality photographs, especially if you print them on paper designed for photos, you are paying for the convenience.

There is a big price to pay because photographs require a lot of inks. You can save a huge amount of money on printers ink by outsourcing your printing.
