During the current economic climate and the dire state of many of the top motoring brands it is no surprise that BMW have recently announced a large drop in profits. BMW have now announced that during 2009 they will focus on managing cash flow and costs and are not looking to make a profit. During 2008 BMW saw the first drop in annual vehicle sales since 1993 which shows just how bad a state the motoring industry is in at the moment. Luxury cars such as the BMW Z4 were particularly badly hit as people seem to be keeping hold of their cash - or they can simply not get the credit. BMW have described this year as a 'transitional' year and have said that we will begin to see the introduction of several revamped BMW cars - including the 3 and 5 series during 2009 and 2010 - which they hope will drive up sales and increase profits during 2010. The BMW 3 series has been one of BMW's more popular cars as it caters for the luxury executive market - during 2005 the 3 series accounted for 40% of BMW's car sales making it their most popular car. The 3 series is now in its 5th generation and has seen subtle aesthetic changes over the years, however it has always managed to maintain its elegant and classy looks. The current 3 series is available as a Saloon, Touring, Coupe and Convertible - the Convertible being extra classy. The 3 series is also a seasoned award-winner too and last year it won What Car's Best Compact Executive Car which cements its place as one of the best executive cars in the market. So, why is the 3 series such a popular car? Firstly, when people set out to buy a luxury, executive car one of the key factors they search for is comfort. The 3 series' luxury cabin is built from the finest materials ensuring that your ride will be smooth, comfortable and relaxing. Secondly they want something that will give them good performance when travelling up and down the motorway - the 3 series delivers here too which is another reason as to why it is so popular. There are a range of powerful engines for you to choose from depending on your motoring needs. Finally, you want something that looks good - and the 3 series comes up trumps here too! The 3 series is sporty and to a degree quite 'muscular' yet it gives the impression of style and elegance. BMW have managed to combine these factors to ensure that the 3 series remains one of their best-selling vehicles.
