Barbra Streisand is recognized the world over as one of the most famous and incredibly successful musicians the world has ever known. During her career she has won a total of eight Grammy Awards, five for albums and three for songs. She has also won and incredible number awards for her roles in film including two Oscars, and three Golden Globes. Streisand's incredible career still stands above many artists who have done far less. Streisand managed to build her music career at a time when Rock was become the number one musical genre in the world. Despite that fact, Streisand pursued the music that interested her, earning acclaim as self-defining artist who refused to go along with the music of the day. Her first Grammy Award was at the age of 21, when she won Album of the Year for her debut The Barbra Streisand Album. She also won a second Grammy with the same album, receiving best Female Pop Vocal Performance the same year. In 1964 her album People won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The title song for the album was from the acclaimed movie Funny Girl, in which Streisand depicted early 20th Century star Fanny Brice and her relation with her first husband. Another album released in 1965, My Name IS Barbra, once again won Barbra the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. And she won the same award again in 1986 for The Broadway Album. The three songs awards that she received were for "Guilty" in 1980, for which she received Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal. But the song "Evergreen," which was the love theme from the movie A Star is Born was her biggest winning song. This one received Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year/New Song of the Year in 1977. "Evergreen" is a great song that contains the ever-famous closing lines: "Two lives that shine as one Morning glory and midnight sun Time we've learned to sail above Time won't change the meaning of one love Ageless and ever evergreen." Numerous artists have been inspired to become a singer from watching her perform. One fan favorite in particular is the song "People," which she sings in Funny Girl. It's likely that parents will continue to pass down their appreciation of Barbra Streisand to their children for many more years to come.
