There was a little rumor going around needless celebrity news-ville that hinted that perhaps Madonna would make a special appearance at Britney's upcoming Nassau Coliseum show later in the month. Fans were in a tizzy. Would the two blonde bombshells lock lips once again? The question now seems pointless as the reunion pop princess show was quickly squashed by a statement on Spears' website which said, "Despite rumors otherwise, at the moment Britney has no plans to collaborate with anyone in the near future at any of her upcoming performances." Still there is always room for speculation, so catch up with Brit by going online to get your very own pair of Britney Spears tickets to one of her many upcoming shows. Britney is back in the spotlight as she traverses the American landscape desperately trying to find her footing after a fall from grace that has lasted almost a decade. She is promoting her latest effort, Circus, which offers up a more grown-up and sensual Brit rather than the sexed up "virgin" that she was first marketed as. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on where you stand on the issue of clowns, Spears has taken the term "circus" literally on her tour. At a recent performance at Banknorth Garden in Boston, she opened with a 20-minute presentation of jugglers, clowns, acrobats and dancing ninjas. The only thing missing from the entire extravaganza was the actual Big Tent, which as you can imagine probably would have cost a pretty penny. After the big tent-event, Britney dropped from the ceiling along with all of her dancers in a spectacle of blasting music and daring stunts. Her fans were thrilled with the "magic" of it all. Britney is, after all, quite a performer. But when it comes to the quality of content, Spears seems to still be faltering with her footing. The bright lights, the smoke, the glittering costumes and crowds of dancers and performers that circle her on the stage don't seem to mask her struggle as a singer. Once you take away the hype of the sold out show, it's hard to get excited about only Britney, a mic and an empty stage. Britney has given the pop world a string of worthy dance-friendly sugar-coated hits that are especially pleasing to her faithful tween fans, but she is lacking in the presentation and the great grandeur of it all. In a way, she seems to be merely along for the ride, rather than sitting in the driver's seat. Spears should be in a category with Madonna, Janet Jackson, even Gwen Stefani, but she has not yet grasped the pulse of her own beats. Nevertheless, Britney is a superstar, and she enjoys and international base of fans that don't seem to mind her tabloid-filled lifestyle and personal drama or the fact that sometimes it doesn't even seem like she is trying to lip-sync. To them, she is the modern day pop princess, and while she may not be Madonna material, she is her own "Material Girl."
