Carrie Underwood is hardly best-known for her musical debut in American Idol on Season 4 of the televised singing competition in 2005, but this country music sensation went back to her roots this week, appearing alongside every AI winner through the years including Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and David Cook in an American Idol reunion of sorts at Disney World. The seven American Idol winners got together to launch Disney World's newest theme park attraction, a simulated competition called "The American Idol Experience." The Hollywood Studios attraction holds auditions throughout the day for AI hopefuls, casting the Disney-goers with the best singing voices in one of several live shows throughout the day with audience members able to vote on their favorite contestant. The person who wins the finale of "The American Idol Experience" gets a dream ticket to audition for the real American Idol and skip the line, getting a lead on the competition. In the Feb. 12 launch event for "The American Idol Experience," Carrie Underwood was one of the main stars of the night. The most popular AI alum yet, Underwood joined the other season winners of the show for a private party and launch event of the Disney World attraction, performing alongside Season 7 winner David Cook in a riveting duet of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest were also in on the festivities, and The American Idol Experience opened to the public on Feb. 14. Carrie Underwood has American Idol to thank for her musical breakout, as the Checotah, Oklahoma native first took the leap of faith to the music industry when she quit school at Northeastern State College just credits short of graduating to audition for the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. The charming blonde easily blew the judges away with her wide vocal range and stunning looks, and Underwood became the fourth contestant crowned victor of the television show. Carrie Underwood's first hit after AI was "Jesus, Take the Wheel," a faith-inspired hit that instantly flew up the country music charts and established the Southern belle as a bona fide Nashville star, even winning Single of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Underwood's debut album Some Hearts flew off shelves on its way to becoming a number one hit on the country charts, spawning the number one singles "Inside Your Heaven," "Jesus Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats," also securing four Grammy Awards along the way. Carrie Underwood easily became the face of the contemporary country music scene, and the American Idol alum followed up her debut album's success with the sophomore effort Carnival Ride in 2007, again debuting at number one on the country and Billboard 200 charts while chart-toppers "All-American Girl," "So Small" and "Last Name" all breezed right into the spotlight. Since the release of Carnival Ride, Carrie Underwood has continued pumping her hits into the mainstream music scene, performing onstage at several live shows and touring the country relentlessly.
