When preparing your new home there are certain terms that may help you when you are purchasing comforters, mattresses, and pillows to go in each bedroom within your home. Box stitch is one of the most popular types in the choices of down comforters that are available on the market today. The box stitch is a checker board pattern that is stitched through a comforter, which keeps down in place more effectively, rather than shifting to the bottom of a duvet, which allows for better temperature control. Channel stitch, which is also known as karo stitch, are rows that are stitched in a comforter lengthwise, creating channels through which down can move. If you tend to get warm while you sleep, this may be a good bet, as the down will shift during the night and the comforter will become lighter and cooler. Baffle is a luxury feature of high grade, heavier comforters, the baffle is an added layer of fabric sewn in the inside shell of a comforter. This effectively traps both air and feathers for greater loft and maximum warmth. Innerspring is a flexible, thus more comfortable mattress. The innerspring is made up of a number of wire coil springs. The more springs per mattress, generally the more comfortable it will be. There are four versions of innerspring, which depends on the make-up of the mattress. One type is horse hair, which is the firmest in relative feel. Horse hair mattresses are often blended with cotton felt. Another type is lamb's wool, which is great for those extreme temperatures. Lamb's wool mattresses stay cool in summer and warm in winter, because the wool is often mixed with cotton felt. The next type of mattress material is feathers, which is softer than both horsehair and lamb's wool. Feather mattresses are typically comprised of chicken, goose, or down feathers, or a combination of the three. Finally, the last type is non allergenic, which is perfect for those individuals that are an extremely sensitive sleeper. They are generally one hundred percent cotton felt has no chemical additives. There are two basic types of pillows, which are the standard pillow and the decorative pillow. A standard pillow can come in soft, medium, or firm. Soft is best for light support and stomach sleepers, while medium is ideal for back sleepers. Firm pillows hit the spot for side snoozers. A decorative pillow can vary in shape. For instance, the euro square is twenty-six by twenty six, the king is twenty by twenty-six. They also come in queen, standard, boudoir, and neck roll, which is sixteen inches long. There are two basic types of pillow shams as well, which are the standard sham and the European sham. The standard sham has a decorative cover, usually for pillows that are not slept on, which are used to complete the look of a bedding ensemble. The European sham is a larger and more square version of the standard sham, used to cover the Euro square pillow.
