There is nothing like meeting your favorite celebrity in person and getting them to give you an autograph or having your picture taken with them. However, it should be noted that there are some proper steps you should take when going about asking a celebrity to give you an autograph or a photo. The first thing you should keep in mind when approaching a celebrity is that they are "real people". They are not the characters that they portray in films, or may be different than the way they appear on television when competing in a sporting event. Always keep that in the back of your mind. You will want to approach them in a way that does not intimidate or scare them. For the most part, most celebrities have no problems with giving an autograph to their fans or with having their photo taken with a follower. However, it's all about the way you approach them. You must do this with great respect. Always look at the situation you find yourself in. If the celebrity in question is enjoying a quiet dinner with what appears to be their family at a restaurant, it is not wise to walk over to their table and interrupt them. Though some celebrities may be okay with this, the majority of them want to be left alone when spending quality time with their families. However, there is no harm in asking their waiter or waitress if they can ask them if it is okay for you to approach them for a autograph or photo. This is generally a good way to "test the water" and see if the celebrity is okay with you drawing attention to them. Celebrities can grow protective when you attempt to approach them if they have their children in tow. So make sure that when you do so that you do it calmly and in a non threatening manner. Don't bust into the scene screaming and crying. Be calm as not to startle their children. You should also be aware that not all celebrities will sign autographs. In this day and age, due to identity theft and other personal concerns, many celebrities will not put their signature on paper or on photos for their fans. This is a personal choice on their part that you are going to simply have to accept whether you like or not. However, in most cases all celebrities are generally okay with having their photos taken alongside their fans. A good rule of thumb is to look at the situation and ask yourself, if you were in their shoes how would you want people to approach to you? Take that answer and use it when approaching celebrities for autographs or photos. The best way to get a celebrity autograph or photo is to find out where your favorite celebrity is appearing in public for an event that is open to general community members. These events include things such as signings, movie premieres, and sporting events to name a few. These are scheduled times when the celebrity has agreed to take part in signings and or photo op moments.
