Used Car Sales Continue To Prosper During Global Credit Crunch

By: Shaun Parker

There has never been a better time to buy a used car. Fact! The credit crunch has hit the car industry hard as many manufacturers are struggling to sell units and many have halted production at many factory plants across the world - this is mainly because people are curbing their spending, especially on more lavish goods such as a new car.

Another major factor affecting the motor industry is that people are less inclined to take the hit on depreciation: a brand new car loses value as soon as it drives off the forecourt - brand new car can depreciate as much as 20 per cent in the first year of ownership! So more people are looking at buying used cars as opposed to brand new because there is much more value in it. Whether it is a used BMW, used Lexus or used Honda, used cars are more sought after than they have been for some time.

Private sales can offer a bargain, but at the same time there is more risk involved, whereas buying a used car from an authorised dealership is less of a risk as a minimum 12 month warranty will come as standard along with some possible special offers on servicing etc.

When buying a used car a vital factor is reliability - the last thing you want is to buy a used car, only for it to suffer problems and need work doing to it at your expense. This would of course not be a problem if you buy from a manufacturer's dealership, but the bottom line is, people will be more inclined to purchase a car that is known for its reliability.

One particular brand of vehicle has been there or thereabouts, at the top or near the top of the reliability league tables over the past decade. Lexus has become synonymous with reliability since they first hit the motor industry in 1989 with the release of the LS 400. The luxury vehicle brand, sister company of Toyota, have built a fine reputation ever since as they attempt to follow their maxim to the letter - 'The Pursuit Of Perfection'.

A used Lexus can be yours for a snip at the moment as not only independent car dealers but also large dealerships are having to put on special offers and lower their prices. With such sound build quality, smooth drive, luxurious interior and reputation for reliability used Lexus cars are becoming increasingly popular.

Used Lexus vehicles also hold their value relatively well after the first year or two which is another pro for the consumer. At a time where the majority of people are refraining from spending vast amounts of money on cars the used market is becoming more appealing, which while many manufacturers continue to struggle through this current economic predicament, some consolation is that used car sales from manufacturer's dealerships are on the increase.

When buying a car you generally get what you pay for, but if you can buy a three year old used Lexus IS250 for 7,500 pounds as opposed to a brand new one for around 30,000 then it really is a no brainer!
