Vauxhall Corsa - From Bland To Stylish

By: Tony Hill

A few years ago Vauxhall Corsas were everywhere - literally everywhere and I suppose they still are. Almost every teenager who passed their driving test had a Corsa as their first car. Back then they were very bubble-like, lacked in imagination and looked fairly cheap - and they were.

The fact that Corsas were cheap to run, buy and insure was a key factor in making them a popular choice for teenage drivers. It is highly likely that you will put a few dinks in your first car within the first year so making sure that you get a cheap one is a really good idea! Insurance costs are also low - which is really important for young drivers as they can be sky high!

I'm talking about the Corsa 'B' which was introduced to the market way back in 1993 and enjoyed a fairly long run. The Corsa 'C' was then introduced in 2000 which was definitely an improvement on the previous one. It bought the Corsa up-to-date but ensured that it was still recognisable compared to the popular Corsa 'B.'

The Corsa 'C' didn't enjoy quite as long a run as the previous version and was replaced by the Corsa 'D' in 2006. The new Corsa - and the current Corsa is modern, trendy and dynamic. Compared to the 'C' it is a breath of fresh air.

It was vitally important that the Corsa was updated and refreshed though as its main competitors have really stepped up their game lately. Ford have recently launched the new Fiesta and Ka which have both proved really popular - particularly the Fiesta.

In the competitive supermini market Vauxhall have tried to ensure that the Corsa stays in the running by giving it a dynamic new look.

The Corsa's engine is also rather nippy making it ideal for shooting around the town or through the city. The interior is also a good-standard, the dials are clearly set out and easy-to-use, you are provided with a good driving position and the seats are comfortable.

If you're looking for something special though take a look at the Corsa VXR, it is definitely one of the leading hot hatchs. The exterior styling has been improved and the sporty 17" alloy wheels and spoiler will definitely make the VXR stand out from the crowd.

The evolution of the Corsa shows how the styling has progressed through the years. Rather than a bland and boring supermini we now have one little trendy hatchback.
