There are many reasons why you want to have your own website, but mainly it is because it gives you full control. But what if I don't have technical knowledge? Do not worry if you are not technical. There are many ways around it, and it takes a few hours to learn what you need to know. So why do I need my own website? There are many reasons beyond 'control', but one of them is building that asset that will last for life. You want to be able to say, 'I can sell this website for a lot of money!' on day. You cannot do that with a blog you created on Blogger. And another reason is that they might take the blog down at any moment, or change the terms of service and not allow you to have your site up anymore, so all your work is lost to a broken site. Don't waste your time like that. Instead pay a small fee for hosting, usually around $200 for 1 or 2 years, and another $10 for your domain name. This will allow you to upload blogs, websites, pages, code, scripts and whatever you like, ON YOUR TERMS. And you get to tell friends you own 'so and so dot com', which is always nice. But the number one reason is that you can now brand yourself with a 'dotcom' name. You are able to say, want to know more about me? Go to yourname.com or whatever. This makes for great business meetings and credibility. Who buys something from 'my-long-and-wierd-blog-123 dot some blog dot com' in reality? Not many do. Who would buy from a domain name that build confidence and trust? Many people do it every day. You will also have a better time ranking for searches in Google and other search engines. Whenever somebody links to your site from theirs to recommend it to a friend, you get a link back to your site, which makes it rank higher in the search engines, competing with an exact copy with less links pointing to that site. By simple link building you can have your site rank on top of Google within 6-12 months of starting a brand new site, sometimes with just a few hours of 'real work', which is totally amazing! The work will be spread out over many months, but you do not need more than a few hundred links to rank #1 in most of the niches out there. Most of the time, people do not know how to get links back to their sites. It is really an easy process if you know how.
